blog problems?

Just posting a note to ask if any of you ever experience problems accessing this blog. A friend often gets a message that says something like this:

Error
Sorry, you have reached either a non-existent site or the site has been suspended (or deactivated) due to Disk Space and/or Bandwidth Violation / Exceeded.
Site Owner: Please refer to this help page for information.

I’m using nowhere near my space or bandwidth, so I’m rather puzzled by this problem. I’ve emailed the webhost to try to find out why this is happening to at least some visitors to the blog. Hopefully they will get the problem sorted out. Anyhow, in the meantime, if you’ve been having problems with this site and want to let me know, either leave a comment to this post, or send me an email. I’d be interested in knowing if this happens to others on either an occasional or regular basis. Thanks.

As you probably recall, Bev, I emailed you about this a month or two ago thinking you might have actually had an overuse meltdown (clearly not the case), but I think it was resolved fairly quickly. Today it did happen again, perhaps 5 or 6pm, but again it was resolved quickly, within a couple of minutes so I didn’t inform you.

The ways of ISPs are very strange, and one never knows, but I’d say that it’s a very short term thing (which I can say), although it may happen frequently (which I can’t say, since I’ve only noticed it twice).

Bev – I use the same host as you (I think), and have never had the problem reported to me by anyone. I did get an error earlier tonight trying to access your website, when I hit the refresh button all was fine again.

The error you guoted in your post was not the error I recieved, it was more of a “we are experiencing temporary issues” error.

Wayne & Peter — My friend had the same problem at around 6 p.m. as well, so there must have been something amiss around that time, although he has trouble accessing my blog quite frequently, so there must be more to this than meets the eye. What I find rather bizarre and annoying is that the webhost puts up that strange message up about the bandwidth and disk space having been exceeded. I can see the “we are experiencing temporary issues” message that Peter got, but not the other as that’s not the case (as Wayne has mentioned). Wayne, I do think you’re right about it probably being a very short term thing. I believe I had more trouble with the blog when I first started it up in February. I seemed to get a lot of weird messages in the first few weeks and thought, “I hope this doesn’t continue!” Maybe the problem will resolve on its own again this time.

Just wanted to say that I have not seen that message. That may be because I check my favorite blogs once in the morning and that’s it for the day. I probably don’t hit the peak times.

Robin – thanks for the feedback. Also just received your email saying that the blog is now not posting comments. Sometimes there’s a weird delay before the post appears – doesn’t happen often, but from time to time. I’m posting this reply to see if it picks it up immediately or if there is a delay.

I had the same problem yesterday, at 6AM and 6PM, but it’s working fine today…

Hoatzin – thanks for posting a comment, and also letting me know that the site seems to be working okay today. I’m hoping that the webhost can get this problem solved sometime soon.

Another update. Around 4pm EST today (July 26th) I had issues getting to your site and mine, getting error 404 (page not found), 500 and 602. I have also contacted the provider to see if this is a wide spread issue that they are working on. This is the first time I have had the issue since using them as a host.

Well, after all of this, I too had a brief problem with my blog this afternoon — I think it was around 5 p.m., and got the “500 Error” message. Maybe the server is just having problems at the moment — possibly due to power outages or something related as I keep reading about problems in different cities. Hopefully, it will all be resolved sometime soon.
