dashboard still-life and shadow self-portrait

Last thing before we wander off for the day. These really need no explanation other than to say that I often make small still-life arrangements of objects on the dashboard of whatever vehicle I’m in. Could be leaves, a fragment of mossy wood, a couple of rocks, or whatever. This is what’s currently occupying the space at the moment (click on images for larger view).

Second photo is a shadow self-portrait taken yesterday while I was standing on huge drifted logs tossed up at the high tide line at Harris Beach near Brookings, Oregon.

Hey, your dashboard looks like our dashboard when we’ve been on the road. Nice collection, and a beautiful journey. I miss the northern California and southern Oregon coast. This has truly been a feast for my eyes. Thank you.

Robin – I can well imagine that your dashboard would fill up just like ours. As mentioned in my comments back a couple of posts ago, I’ll be putting up some photos elsewhere once I get more time — haven’t spent much time on that so far as there will be plenty of hours to work on that once I’m home again. This has been a wonderful trip for me — a sort of rediscovery of another heart’s home on this great planet.

I’ve been enjoying all the photos from your trip. Well, maybe not those huge slugs, ugh!! :) I have similar little arrangements of rocks, wood etc. throughout my house.

I hate to throw cold water on your charming dashboard-deco idea, but it seems awfully dangerous. Do you want those rocks hitting your face at high speed if something happens? Sorry to be so negative about it …

    Such huge driftwood! Beautiful pictures.

I was thinking about the racket they must make any time you make a turn! Very pretty though.

Marnie – Don’t worry too much about the rocks… they are actually a lot smaller than they look in the photo!

Lynne – Some of the storm-tossed logs on the beaches down here defy description. Yesterday, Don photographed me standing beside a redwood stump that was as big as a small truck. Maybe I’ll post that in the next while.

Laura – The dashboard still-life doesn’t actually shift around at all as I picked stones that are pretty flat and not really too large. The driftwood aren’t large either… just light little pieces, so there really isn’t any noise.
