History and architecture of the Boyd Brothers Company of Osgoode, Ontario

February 5th, 2007

This website was created as an online place to archive a research paper that I wrote in 1993, while working toward a graduate degree at Carleton University. The paper is about the concrete block buildings constructed throughout much of eastern Ontario, by the Boyd Brothers Company of Osgoode. Each section of the paper appears on its own page on this site. I’ll be adding sections as I have time. To access the pages, use the “page” navigation in the right sidebar of this page, OR click on the links below. The text and many of the photos on this website are © by Bev Wigney. For permission to use or reprint any part of it, please email me.

Section One – History of the Boyd Brothers Company.
Section Two – “Imitation stone” versus “Natural concrete”.
Section Three – Variations in type and production of concrete blocks.
Section Four – The “exposed aggregate” concrete block.
Section Five – Concrete architectural detail materials.
