recently read and enjoyed

These are few posts which I’ve recently read and enjoyed while visiting other blogs:

* The first is a series of posts on Pohangina Pete, containing photos and journal entries from Pete’s current wanderings in India. As Always, Pete’s photos are stunning: Part One: Badrinath; Part Two: Engineer Baba; and Part Three: The idea of mountains.

* Here’s a series of posts by Laura at Somewhere In NJ that I meant to include in my “recently read” last time ’round. However, maybe this an excellent time to call attention to them — right when people will be thinking about cranberry sauce for their Christmas dinners. However, being a vegetarian, instead of putting cranberries to use in sauce, I use them in my Apple and Cranberry pies (in fact, I’ll be baking one on Christmas Day). Postcards from a cranberry bog is about both historic and commercial cranberry bogs; More from the cranberry farms and bogs provides more background on commercial bogs and the history of the older ones of NJ, and Back to the barrens features some beautiful photos of an old cranberry bog.

* The next is a trio of posts on color and vision by Wayne of Niches. It’s about how we see color, why some people are colorblind, why some of us perceive color differently, and the genetics of color vision. The first two posts contain some interesting color vision tests. It’s fascinating stuff! Part One: Color, Part Two: Red Yellow Green Blue, and Part Three: Color Vision Genetics.

Well, that’s it for now, but I’ll continue posting good reads as I happen across them.
