some news

Those who know me well, also know that I’m rather pathetic at blowing my own horn. I’m very shy and incredibly uncomfortable about talking up what I do — not exactly a useful characteristic for a person who should be doing more to promote her nature photography. So, in the interest of doing some shameless self-promotion, I just wanted to say that I’ve just received a copy of the new book on the Misumena vatia spider, Predator Upon A Flower, by Douglass H. Morse. That’s one of my spider photos on the book jacket. I haven’t had time to read much of the book yet, but it seems very interesting and I’ve already learned a few things. There’s also quite a good chapter on Xysticus crab spiders. I’ve been trying to find out more about them as I see a lot of them around here guarding egg cases. Apparently, the largest ones are Xysticus emertoni, which is what I suspected – so I think maybe those are the species I’ve been seeing and photographing. I’ll post a more complete review of the book after I have some time to do more reading.

Yesterday, I also just received a copy of the new Kaufman Field Guide to Insects of North America. I have a few small photos in that as well.

So there you go – my first attempt at shameless self-promotion. I promise not to do this too often. (-:
