we find the mermaid who lost her purse

Rather unexpectedly, we discovered that we would have a net connection this weekend, so I’m just dashing this off before we head out for a day of hiking. I’m jumping ahead too — past Thomas Cove — but will return to that sometime soon. Instead, these are a couple of scenes from yesterday’s discoveries. We found two wonderful beaches in the Bridgewater area — Rissers Beach at the provincial park that goes by that name, and Crescent Beach, which is situated by the causeway to the LaHave Islands (see image below). Both are long, curving, fine sand beaches.

While at Rissers Beach, we discovered a large mermaid - perhaps even the same one who lost the purse that we found a couple of days ago (click on images for larger view).

At Rissers Beach, we also found an interesting chair growing out of a tree stump. It seems to be a shrine of some sort — perhaps a mermaid shrine, as there were many offerings of seashells and sand dollars placed upon it.

Well, we’re off to do some wandering. Will back….whenever we’re back ~

I’m still trying to figure out that mermaid. I’m a little worried about her. Who left her cake out on the sand in the sun?

  2. Wayne Says:

Actually, she looks like a cyclops/mermaid hybrid. Maybe she sleeps during the day!

Wayne - Yes! she does look a bit like a cyclops/mermaid hybrid… lol! All I can say is that she may not be the most beautiful mermaid I’ve ever seen, but she certainly had plenty of character. She was BIG too… maybe about 8 feet counting her fins! (-:

Neat pics! I’d love to know the story behind that chair.

  5. Wayne Says:

Wow - I just clicked on the “chair” link to the alternative photo. That’s a magnificent little shrine. Someone went to a a lot of imaginative trouble for that.

Laura and Wayne - As far as I can tell, the chair is part of the stump and must have been carved out of it with a chainsaw. It’s interesting that people have been leaving shells, sandstones, bits of crockery, found objects and even some change. As Laura has mentiond, it would be interesting to know the story behind the chair.

That looks like the mermaid my friend and I created! Could it be?

Were you at the beach around that date? It was pretty much washed away the next day, so it must have been made on July 14 or 15th.
